The AP (and criticizing AP is a parlor game - drink now) makes a blanket assertion about 'Asians' and home ownership in 2008. What generation is being considered? And, 'Asian' as a demographic term is so geographically, nationally, and ethically broad as to be meaningless. AP blames the situation on 'regional effect': California has been hot by the housing crisis disproportionately, and many 'Asians' live in California.
But, as Han points out, the lack of homogeneity in the Asian-American community is surprising:
While definitely, not the poorest, it does show that Korean-Americans are the poorest among Northeast Asians and actually have a lower median income than that of all American households, which stands in stark contrast with the fact that the median of Asian-Americans stands much higher than that of all American households.
