On the one hand, we have a woman who has scrapped her way to becoming governor of Alaska (a sparsely populated but idealized "frontier" state). Her credentials for being a feminist:
• She's a woman.
• She used to play basketball, and likes to hunt.
• She uses the phrase "Old Boys' Club", and claims to have fought it.
Can't think of any more...
On the other hand, we have a man who has been a US Senator for Delaware for 35 years. His credentials for being a feminist:
• He's pro-choice, even though as a Catholic, he believes life begins at conception
• He supports equal pay for equal work
• He, and the women in his office, drafted the Violence Against Women Act, described by The National Organization for Women as
"the greatest breakthrough in civil rights for women in nearly two decades."
• The above act was part of The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which, among other things, prohibited charging rape victims for forensic evidence collection kits.
