10 days ago we noticed that one of our dogs had a quarter-sized spot of fur missing on her head. We were intrigued since it appeared all of sudden and there were no real scratches or blood marks on it.
Hmm..may be she got in it with our other dog but still we thought, there would have been more damage to that area than what looked like a clean shaved chunk of fur on their head. We’ve been monitoring it since then but it didn’t seem to heal so we took her to the vet to check it out.
Upon inspection from the vet and the test of the scab that now was in that area, using the microscope our vet was able to find the cause ( he actually let me see that parasite) — decodex canis — mange. It is localized just to that area so we hope we can get it resolved by prescribed Goodwinol Oitment but there could be more issues if this doesn’t resolve that could relate to the immune system of our dog. And that’s when the vet asked me if there is been any stress in the house, if my wife and I had been fighting, whether there were any major changes, and so on. I was really shocked by the question and said no or not really but short while afterwards realized that while we haven’t been fighting and haven’t had too many changes in the household we have been very depressed in the wake of what happened during this past election. And that realization really brought it home for me — we have been so stressed about this election and so depressed afterwords that our pets who very sensitive to these changes in behavior were negatively affected by all of this. They don’t know what’s going on but they feel that things are not good and that stresses them out.
So we’ve decided to do our best to show more love to each other and our pets, try to stress less and be mindful of our pets emotional state. if you have pets — please be thinking how our stress, depression or anger affects the immune systems of our best friends. We owe it to them to provide a safe and positive environment.
By the way, if you have any tips or advice on how to best treat this condition (holistically), do’s and don’ts if you will, or anything that could help our dog to heal more quickly — please feel free to share. Thank you and take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
