A friend here in California working on the No on 8 campaign told me that undecided voters, when only exposed to the Yes on 8 ads, support Prop 8, (to reverse marriage equality in California) by a margin of 18%, but those who see ads from both sides oppose Prop. 8 by a margin of 4%. It is vital that we raise the money to counter the tens of millions of dollars pouring into California, by members of the Mormon Church, the Knights of Columbus, Focus on the Family, etc.
Today only, a challenge grant will double any donations, up to $120,000 total, to No on 8 made through HRC. You can donate through this site, or any HRC No on 8 site: http://www.hrc.org/...
This donation site is through HRC, but 100% of the money goes to the No on 8 campaign.
A small group of us, mostly health professionals, started a fundraising campaign for No on 8 a couple of months ago, and so far have raised close to $100,000! We had little experience in doing this, but just the knowledge that forces of discrimination would pour millions of dollars into demonizing LGBT people, and that we needed to do our part to help counter the lies with simple truth. The California Supreme Court ruled that we were equal under the law, and though right-wingers from out of state would do anything to strip us of our equality under the law, Californians would side with fairness if they had the opportunity to hear our voices, too.
An email I sent out somehow made it onto the blog of a journalist:

The above message has a link to one of the Yes on 8 television ads bombarding us 24/7. It's disturbing that the ending message on the ad reads, "Protect Our Children." The message of the ad is that the state is trying to indoctrinate your children into homosexuality, and that you must vote Yes on 8 to keep your child out of the hands of the homosexuals. Sickening, really-- the Briggs Initiative all over again, 30 years later.
The right wing recognizes that this is a key battle in the culture wars. What California voters do Nov. 4 could determine the eventual direction of the nation on marriage equality. Please give what you can to help us save our equality under the California constitution! If you give today, consider doing so via the site above, to double your contribution.
