Very disturbing. Earlier today a certain diary was celebrating 7,000 more NATO troops supporting the mission in Afghanistan. This is accepted as a "diplomatic victory" for the Obama Administration to put a multinational face on the Afghanistan conflict. This is promoted as a "hoo-ray" for the Obama administration by, quote "we progressives."
Equally disturbing is how US "progressives" support this unquestionably since it is the administrations policy
Some comments were celebrating how NATO troops make the whole operation legitimate. What these comments really convey is that Americans still view NATO as simply an extension of the US military to unquestionably engage in US adventures.
No one considers the democratic process of a sovereign nation where a vast majority has opposed the Afghan conflict for a very long time.
In short, the Bundewehr has no business doing anything but defending the borders of Germany; the world agreed on that about 70 years ago after a small military kerfuffle in the mid-twentieth century.
Yet some commentators chose to speak for their lesser European peers in exalting the virtues of the overwhelming support for the American administration.
It is nothing further than the truth. Let me tell you what is going on, on the other side of the Atlantic.
And if you don't understand nor speak the language, how can one speak for Europeans asserting they overwhelmingly support the US administration?
Europe is not an American colony to say how high when America says jump. We actually have accountability here. Last week the lies caught up to the former defense minister and Franz Josef Jung resigned
But that's not the only problem facing Chancellor Angela Merkel. Within her coalition -- made up of her conservatives paired with the business-friendly Free Democrats (FDP) -- there are a number of parliamentarians who are rebelling from the party line. And overshadowing it all is the growing scandal surrounding the controversial, German-ordered bombing of two tanker trucks near Kunduz in Afghanistan -- an attack that led to the deaths of numerous, perhaps dozens, of civilians and has already resulted in one resignation from Merkel's cabinet.
Angie's in deep shit over this, this is the type of scandal that may or may not bring down a government, but nothing is certain - least of all continued German military support.
My party is working day in and day out to get the Bundeswehr out of Afghanistan. I naturally get frustrated with US progressives working against our cause - working against the majority of the population's opinion. Making matters worse, so that President Obama looks good. Get out of never-neverland, the world isn't yet in snuggies with the new American president, despite domestic support.
And just for your information, take it as you will:
