The party of NO gets things done?
Maybe the Nothing nothings because to the teabaggers resistance to the Borg is not futile and Democrats don't realize that the investment in Americas future they think important has been painted as more Borg spending by the Faux.
Not all our politicians are the spineless craven limp dicked impotent weaklings Sarah Palin would paint them as. Bernie Sanders, Trumka, Weiner, Grayson, Dennis all have spines, and their priorities in the right place, but herding Democrats makes herding cats look easy.
The Congress is brim full of special interests including some that are anything but Democratic. Democrats vote for that stuff because lobbyists make it seem that its an issue of jobs and tie the economic interests of the folks back home in things like coal mining in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, the rust belt and Wyoming; Drilling for oil in the Gulf States, Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, and coal, gas and oil throughout the west.
Defense spending is a big priority everywhere. A big chunk of Defense spending goes to places like MIT and NASA where the CIA's TIA (by whatever name it goes now)is arguably planting the seeds of future investment in things like Star Wars, Google Earth and Sketchup which I suppose are academic on some level.
Obama cut NASA and embraced mythbusters for a reason. He's trying to sell science to the creationists on a level they can appreciate, blowing shit up.
I'm not sure Bernie Sanders, Trumka, Weiner, Grayson, Dennis are that clever, to transfer the blowing shit up, M80 in the port-o=let, from the military and academia to the private sector, but the bottom line interest in cutting defense spending is important.
The reason we fight wars is that since WWII our military industrial complex has demanded we keep it at WWII levels of production for ships, planes, tanks, trucks, guns, bases, uniforms, ammunition, boots, hats, belts, underwear, meals ready to eat, bottled water, and all the stuff you find for sale in a PX.
Since Eisenhower gave us the National Defense highway system making a pretty package for Big Oil, General Motors and the MIC, infrastructure contractors expect the government to spend money on roads, bridges, water and sewer, electric power transmission, natural gas pipelines, broadband, dams, levees, and post offices.
All of those areas, Energy, Defense, and Infrastructure have large blocks of voters who think they are important. Somehow we never sold Johnson's war on poverty with the same intensity we sold Kennedy's cold war, Reagans war on drugs and Shrub's war on terror.
For the representatives of we the people that are planning on feeding at the trough cuting spending is just not an option and that's aside from the argument that cutting spending just puts people out of work.
Why do we talk about stimulus spending for things like mass transit, alternative energy, healthcare, education, instead of the stimulus of investment? While we like those priorities a lot isn't it important to explain that its investment rather than just more spending> Isn't this an area where a president could really lead us in the right direction?
If our real priority is to cut spending and do more investing in America, probably the biggest single investment we could make would be to do whatever it takes to stop spending money on the interest we pay to China which is fueling their rapid growth as a competitor and start investing in creating jobs. The interest on the debt is forcing everything else we spend or invest in out of the budget.
Social Security, Medicare and Healthcare are big programs that just like Defense seem to be untouchable when it comes to investing in our future.
Obama had enough spine to set up a commission to open a dialog on cutting spending on all the sacred cows. Would he have got the right to consider cutting defense without putting social security on the table as a counter balance? I don't know, but like the environment and climate change mediation we need to have these conversations.
I like it that Obama managed to totally undercut the frame that its the Republicans who are fiscally conservative. In that way they have simply been pool hall hustled by Obama.
Like the wizard of oz throwing a party Obama's going to take them up the yellow brick road.
With this embrace of a sole issue, important before all else, even over and above the destruction of Obama, tax breaks for greedy billionaires, it will happen before they realize the coke they are snorting off the titties on the flying monkeys they are cuddling up with are part of an old time medicine show. the Faux politicians just got mnemonic device painted Dan the evil and greedy foreign money Tool
Pull back the curtain and see the outrageously slick yippee community organizer from Chicago helping them live their fantasies and making them real even as he cleans house on the teabaggers ideas about small government.
If elections have consequences and the teabaggers message about smaller government is essentially "find a way to spend less money and make better investments" his actions are aggressively addressing those concerns.
