The wheels on the DOW go 'round & {SPLAT}!
There will be plenty of DOW, S&P, etc. news, so let's move to "this day in history." On August 8, 1974, President Richard Nixon announced he would resign following damaging revelations in the Watergate scandal.
On this date in 1844, Brigham Young was chosen to lead the Mormons following the killing of Joseph Smith. I wonder what either one of these gents would think of The Book of Mormon?
Finally, wish a happy 74th birthday to Dustin Hoffman! He's been in so many movies & other stuff I like, but he gets a free pass from me for life because he did voice work for one of my favorite Simpsons episodes. :D
Let's Countdown!
#5 "Going DOWn" AKA "Wall Street Plunges" AKA "Tea and Downgrades" - Again, 2 out of the 3 ratings agencies still have us at "AAA." But, Wall Street didn't seem to care; the DOW was down a cool 634 points today. That whirring I hear is my retirement funds swirling down the terlet, but heaven forbid I take that money NOW when I need it. &^%$#@! President Obama gave a speech today. Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac were downgraded by S&P, too. GOBP "leadership" took great pains to try to link uncertainty about the political process as far as President Obama's involvement to the S&P downgrade; it certainly wasn't the $hitacular debt ceiling deal! *&^%$#@! Senator John Kerry called the downgrade "the tea party downgrade." Senator Lindsey Graham praised the tea baggers; well, of course he did. AND, just before the recall elections in WI, the Cheese Head tea baggers are taking credit for the downgrade - BRILLIANT! Rep. Paul Ryan claimed the downgrade vindicated his budget. Senator McCentury came to the defense of the poor picked on S&P; however, Senator Sanders had THIS to say:
Where were they four years ago when they, and other credit rating agencies, helped cause this horrendous recession by providing AAA ratings to worthless sub - prime...mortgage securities on behalf of Wall Street investment firms?
Any chance he gets asked to be a part of the "super Congress"? Yea, I know - rhetorical question. HEY! Yo Keith! You better not be slamming people with MA degrees in English, dear heart! ;D Of course, I never claimed to be an expert on the economy, either, so I got THAT going for me! ;D Sam Stein gets post - S&P downgrade duty. He says the market is responding to the fact that there will be little to no economic growth in this country BECAUSE of the Satan sandwich with a side of a steaming pile of poo. Robert Kuttner gets to talk the economic side of post - S&P downgrade duty. He called the Wall Street reaction a rebuke to the S&P because treasury bonds are still doing quite well, thank you very much. Keith thinks the GOBP & the tea baggers were praying for a downgrade or were too stupid to think a downgrade was coming; Mr. Kuttner thinks the timing of the S&P downgrade was rather $hitacular. The downgrade should've come in the midst of the GOBP hostage - taking of the debt ceiling.
#4 "Field of Dreams" AKA "Power of Prayer" - Governor Secessionist will apparently announce on Saturday that he wants to be the President of the country from which he wanted to secede. About 30,000 people attended the Governor's little revival on Saturday; only over 50,000 seats were empty. Bat$hit Bachmann attended an anti - gay church service over the weekend, and, because she's so morally upright, she can handle the economy just fine, thanks! O...M...G...a "must read" book on her website says the Civil War was a battle between the "Christian" South & the "heathen" North?! OK, she just might be on $aint $arah from Wasilla level of *&^%$#@! And, that Newsweek cover just...wow...&^%$#@! Ryan Lizza wrote the New Yorker profile of Bat$hit Bachmann. Wow, do I dare read the thing? And, she apparently doesn't want to talk gay marriage anymore to the point where she's walking out on interviews.
"Time Marches On!" - CNN tried to cram a bunch of pictures into 1 screen with hi - larious results. A potential diver fell down & went boom! A tight rope walker in China walked said rope between 2 hot air balloons; said tight rope walker looked down - OOPS!
#3 "Total Recall" AKA "Heated Political Battle" - Tomorrow's recall elections in WI are the largest in history, and some serious coin has been spent in the effort. John Nichols is in WI tonight. High turnout is expected! Dems need to win 3 of the races tomorrow to wrestle control of the state Senate from the Fitzwalkerstan cabal. This Alberta Darling chic sounds simply lovely! I'm sure my Cheesehead F.O.O. can give us more stories. ;D State Senator Mark Miller is the next guest; he'll hopefully be majority leader after tomorrow! :D HEY! I just notice something; Governor Scotty has a bald spot! Is that why he's so mean? If so, someone give the dude some Rogaine or something! Keith brought up the prospect of big 'ol corporate interests being able to fund recall elections out the yin - yang; great, NOW, they'll do it.
WPITW - Keith's Pirate Rupert voice has been vindicated! :D A MO tea bagger who is the Lt. Gov. has spent lots of time in hotel rooms, and he's apparently spending some of that time with Penthouse ladies. ;D FAUX & "Friends" propped up a pro - Gov. Scotty toadie who has had to resign her position after being stopped for a DUI with her kids in the car.
#1 "The Book of Mormon" AKA "You Gad Me at Hello" - Josh Gad is 1 of the co - stars of the Broadway musical. Something tells me that I need to see this thing should it go on tour! :D
