I never did think I would ever post a Pootie diary, but there's a first time for everything I suppose. OK, so I'm out in the backyard this morning at around 7, sipping coffee and pulling some weeds, when I hear this mewing. It was pretty loud and insistent mewing. I look around but see no kitteh, 'til I look up. There at the top of the power pole is this little guy. It's after 9 now and he/she is still up there. More below ...
That's the pole there, the kitteh is up there with the flying rats, er, pigeons. Mrs. Zello thought the Fire Dept. could help. Not wanting to use the emergency number, she hopped in her little car and went over to the local Firehouse. The Fireman explained that the Fire Dept. no longer rescues kittehs, only people. He said that the cat will come down on its own when it gets hungry. The InnerTubes says to put a can of tuna on the ground, we'll try that. Watch this space for updates ...
10:00 AM PT: Power company called, they said they'd send someone over.
11:09 AM PT: Second call to power co., they say we're "in the queue". 90 degrees in the shade, the kitten, of course, is not in the shade.
11:25 AM PT: A guy from the power company has arrived, happy ending soon.
11:41 AM PT: Uh oh, maybe not so happy ending. The power co. guy had an extendable fiberglass pole with a bag at the end. The idea was to get the cat in the bag. The cat got scared and jumped. A palo verde tree broke its fall a little and it hit the wall on its stomach. It ran into a corner of the yard. We're trying not to scare it anymore. We've left some water, we'll try to see if first aid is necessary in a while.
1:11 PM PT: Kitteh is on the way to Urgent Care for check-up.
1:34 PM PT: Our story now comes to a close. The Vet will inspect the cat, if it pulls through, they will send it to the Humane Society. This is SOP when people bring in animals that they do not own. Happy Mother's Day.
