#CVI of My Stupid State
Petty doesn't begin to describe Rick Scott. After all, this is the man who just this week snubbed the wife of a former Democratic governor.
Then this happened yesterday:
Florida officials have abruptly canceled a talk by a Florida State professor and writer who has been critical of the administration of Gov. Rick Scott.
Diane Roberts, who does commentary for National Public Radio and writes columns for various publications, was supposed to give a talk at the state-owned Mission San Luis on April 3.
Roberts planned to discuss Florida's environment and problems with the state's rivers, lakes and springs.
Brittany Lesser, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Ken Detzner, said an "internal decision" was made within the secretary's office to cancel the talk.
Really, how petty can you be?
(On a side note, getting rid of Detzner will be the one of the best things to happen once Rick Scott is thrown out. The previous Secretary of State resigned over Scott's voter suppression tactics, whereas Detzner embraced them with zeal. He even interfered in the recent special election. November can't come soon enough.)
This latest incident caps off a disastrous week for Rick Scott. His staff had planned a huge Hispanic outreach effort but instead had to deal with the fallout of Scott's chief fundraiser, Mike Fernandez, resigning after two senior staffers thought it would be funny to mock Mexicans. Rick Scott, being who he is, decided it prudent to staunchly defend the staffers and come out swinging against his chief fundraiser. Another top GOP official, Gonzalo Sanabria, just resigned in protest over the Scott campaign's "culture of insensitivity" and how disgusted he was at Mike's sudden treatment. Sanabria said he was "no longer a fan" of Rick Scott.
These days, I don't know who is....
