I've been wondering about why Republicans haven't tried to impeach President Obama.
Well, I know why they haven't. That should be obvious.
The question is, why isn't everyone pointing out that they haven't?
This is the perfect example of right-wing cynical hypocrisy and dishonesty. Why is everyone giving them a pass?
Follow me beyond the fold...
Think about it. From almost the day President Obama took the Oath of Office in January of 2009, Republicans have been telling us that he has been committing unconstitutional acts. He's breaking the law. He's lawless. He's a traitor. He needs to be impeached.
Literally, almost since the day he was inaugurated, we've been hearing this. Solyndra. Fast & Furious. Obamacare. Bailout of the US auto industry. ARRA. Not to mention giving people food stamps, and driving the DOW down to 6500 before March of 2009.All that happened within the President's first year in office, and we were told all of it -- each one of those actions -- was worthy of impeachment.
Why haven't they done it? Why haven't the Republicans enacted Articles of Impeachment?
You can kind of understand why they didn't before January of 2011. Articles of Impeachment have to be enacted by the House of Representatives, and before January of 2011, the House was controlled by Democrats. One could point out that Articles of Impeachment against President Obama would not have passed the House -- or even gotten out of committee -- before January of 2011.
But I mean, come on. If this President is breaking the law, if he is committing high crimes against the state, if he is constantly violating the Constitution -- surely ethical and dedicated Republicans would have been insisting that the House Judiciary Committee at least think about Articles of Impeachment, even under a Democratic-controlled House.
After all, Bill Clinton was impeached for getting a blow job in the Oval Office, and that's not a crime against the State. (Yeah, they pretended Clinton was impeached because he lied to a grand jury about getting a blow job, but we all know it was about getting a blow job.)
Maybe Nancy Pelosi scared the crap out of Republicans, and they didn't feel they should dare piss her off while she was Speaker of the House. Okay. So why didn't they bring up Articles of Impeachment once they won the House? After January of 2011, Pelosi was no longer Speaker. Republicans chaired all of the House committees. Republicans were free to bring up Articles of Impeachment without the Wrath of Nancy to stop them.
Why didn't they do it?
Maybe because the Senate was still under Democratic control? Well, no, I don't think that was the reason. The Senate doesn't have to approve of Articles of Impeachment. The House enacts such Articles, and the Senate has no choice but to hold an impeachment trial. It says so, right in the Constitution. Even if Harry Reid didn't want to, he wouldn't have a choice.
And the trial wouldn't be run by him anyway. It would be run by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who is Oral -- sorry, John -- Roberts. No one will accuse him of being the pocket of Democrats. I mean, really.
Well, maybe Republicans were afraid they couldn't get a fair hearing in the Senate, what with it being under Democratic control, even with Roberts running the trial. But that excuse is gone now, too. Since January of this year, Republicans have controlled the Senate. So why haven't they acted yet? They've been waiting six long years. Isn't it time yet?
At the very least, an impeachment trial would embarrass the President, and possibly the entire Democratic Party -- provided, of course, the charges are legitimate. All that testimony. All that investigation. All those facts. We've been told it's a slam dunk. The President is lawless, and he deserves to be impeached.
IRS. Benghazi. Obamacare is still around, and Obama has been fiddling with it. Immigration. Drones. Having Eric Holder as Attorney General. Opposing voter ID. Light bulbs. School lunches. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Ambassador Rice. The list of lawless and impeachable offenses goes on and on and on.
Why haven't Republicans done anything about it?
Republicans control all of Congress now for dog's sake! and we have a Republican Chief Justice. Why not do it?
Well, we all know why. The President's only real crime is PWB. We all know that. All the talk about "impeachable offenses" and "lawlessness" is so much rightwing bullshit. Even Republicans in Congress know it, which is why they haven't even brought articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee.
See, if anyone drafted Articles of Impeachment, and brought them before the Judiciary Committee, the Committee would have to vote on them. And then the Committee would have to pass them, or risk everyone being crucified by the Tea Party. And then Boehner would have to bring the Articles to a vote on the House floor. And House Republicans would have to unanimously approve them in a strictly partisan vote. And then McConnell would have to schedule a nonsense kangaroo court, which would look even sillier than the impeachment over Clinton getting a blow job.
Because there is no legitimate testimony. The "investigation" would be an obvious sham. There are no facts. There are no impeachable offenses. There is no lawlessness.
Republicans don't dare do any of this. They'd be a laughing stock. There are no crimes. Republicans would look like total idiots pretending there are. And everybody knows it. Even Republicans know it.
That's why they don't do it. We all know that.
But ...
Why the frick is no one pointing this out?
Every damn time Cruz or Boner or Yertle talks about "unconstitutional" acts, or "lawlessness," or crimes committed by the Administration -- Every. Single. Goddam. Time, we need to demand --
Okay you jerk, when are you bringing up Articles of Impeachment?
If you expect anyone in the world to take you seriously ever again, either impeach the President or STFU.
We're sick of hearing your lies and your propaganda and your meaningless bullshit. Either do it or stop pretending you're saying anything meaningful.
You're only spreading this idiocy to rile up the mouth-breathing racists who are the basic FOX demographic, the mindless pitchfork-wielding hordes who vote in Republican primaries. You are hurting America with this crap. You pretend to be protecting the Constitution, while you are exhibiting your utter contempt for it.
Time to put up or shut up. Schedule the impeachment or admit you're lying.
Every. Single. Goddam. Time.
Every time one of these a-holes talks this language, we need to insist they give us a date when they are starting impeachment proceedings.
Republicans need to be held accountable for their anti-American actions.
Why aren't we all doing this?
