Last Thursday, I asked for your help with expenses and with a title for my new cartoon, and y'all came through beautifully. The result is that my immediate bills are covered, although I still need money for rent. And I have a perfect title for my cartoon series: Les Beastiables (Les Bez for short!)! Over the weekend, I arranged for ownership of the domain names, but I still have issues getting the Web site up and running.
All who took part have my undying thanks. The winners of the Kontest are those who discussed all things beastly: Besame, Compost On The Weeds, and Smoh; along with penelope pnortney for reminding me of the Scottish poem. And also Alhambra for suggesting something French, which reminded me that French always classes up the joint. But all the suggestions were fantastic and were considered at length!
[NOTE FOR THE CURIOUS: The names are Franglish. Beastiables and Bez are not actual French words!]
Each week, I plan to draw a new beastie (or it may be an old beastie saying something beastlier than the last time!), to be posted every Tuesday evening (here and at www.lesbeastiables.com). Hopefully Les Bez will be widely shared on social media, so that the human beasts who inspired them will be remembered for their beastliness; and so that, depending on who they are, they will be voted against, their TV shows turned off, their shops boycotted, as appropriate. Hopefully with all our efforts, we can turn things around so that this country never looks like that in Les Miz.
From Les Beastiables,
Good Lord, deliver us!
A note about the type: I had originally used Calibri, but it came out a little smudgy. This is Gungsuh above. It's a little different from Times Roman, but nice and crisp. It doesn't matter if all browsers support it, because it's part of the JPEG image.
If you missed last week, for more Beastiables images, please see last week's diary!
I promised I would have an announcement today either way, so here goes: Since I last wrote on Thursday, I have had two job interviews, one of which said they would let me know right away. At this point, neither has let me know; so much for that "right away" thing. Even if I could start right away, it would take time before my first paycheck. So I need to ask for the Daily Kos community's continuing help. I also would like to make at least part of my income from my political cartoons. Here's what you can do right now to help:
1 - Please recommend, tip, comment, and republish this diary. This will help spread the word throughout Daily Kos.
2 - If you have Website building skills, there are picky little things about the site-in-progress that neither I nor my somewhat-more-techie friend have been able to figure out how to solve. If you have some spare time and can help, please Kosmail me to let me know.
3 - If you know of a company that makes T shirts, mugs, etc., to order, and that pays the designer quickly and with little complication, please Kosmail to let me know.
4 - If you know of a better way to receive payments than with PayPal, please Kosmail to let me know. The money raised so far is being wired to my bank, but they said it could still take 3-5 business days. I have talked with my landlord, who has agreed to give me until the 5th for the rent that is due on the 1st, but I still need to hustle to meet that deadline (5 business days is a week, and the 5th is a week from tomorrow!).
5 - If you have money to spare, I would greatly appreciate a donation via PayPal to me at karlekonsultants@cs.com. Please be sure to note to PayPal that you are sending money to a friend. Otherwise they may try to charge a 3% fee and place a hold on the funds.
Thank you very much, Kossacks! As you know, I am delighted to be part of this community, and am looking forward to being here in the future and paying it forward as soon as my situation improves.
