Bush again defends invasion of Iraq
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - President Bush defended his decision to invade Iraq even as he conceded on Monday that investigators had not found the weapons of mass destruction that he had warned the country possessed.
Allowing Iraq to possibly transfer weapons capability to terrorists was not a risk he was willing to take, Bush said.
...
"We removed a declared enemy of America who had the capability of producing weapons of mass murder and could have passed that capability to terrorists bent on acquiring them..."
OK. So no weapons, just weapons "capability."
Now, where is the damned evidence of "capability?" The ONLY thing Saddam had were some old battlefield chemical weapons left over from the Iran-Iraq war. That's it. So what is this "capability" he is talking about? He had no nuke or bioweapons program. He had nothing. Even Powell and Rice said in 2001 that Saddam "has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction." Memory Hole link How could Saddam have "passed that on" to terrorists?
Nothing he says makes a goddamned bit of sense.
