The executive committee of the Association of State Democratic Chairs made its endorsement for Donnie Fowler today, as trumpeted by
TIME, in its misleading article "Fowler: 1, Dean: 0".
Here's the breakdown of the vote:
1st Round 2nd Round
Dean 6 6
Fowler 5 8
Frost 3 -
Rosenberg 1 -
(One of Frost's people abstained.)
In other words, if only one person had switched to Dean (or one of the four non-voters had voted), it would've been a tie. One thing to keep in mind: Fowler received a whole 42% of the eligible 19 voters, and 26% in the first round. For those trying to conjure up an anti-Dean, however, the first round doesn't matter; it's the third or fourth round that will really count.
I'm not worried about a sudden outpouring of support for Fowler (disclosure: yes, I am pro-Dean), especially considering the leverage his daddy/former DNC head has. But it is frustrating that nobody switched to Dean the second round. That is, the lone Rosenberg supporter would rather have Frost than Dean.
That said, the full body will vote on the endorsement tomorrow, and the AFL-CIO will weigh in later.
