Is it possible to win this Gonzalez thing?
To filibuster, we will need 40 votes. We have 44 Senators. Lieberman is a sure NO. I dont know about the others. Anyone think we will get Snowe/Mccain/Sununu on our side?
We need to strongly show that if a Democrat votes for this nomination, he is done as a member of our party. I know we probably cannot expect much of this, but the Democrat(s) who vote for this nomination-- especially if they have a consistently Republican voting record, should be kicked off our committees-- let them go to the other side in name too. Miller (Zell) should have been, but he wasn't.
If Lieberman votes for the nomination tomorrow, which my gut feeling is he will, show him no respect. He is up for re-election in 2006, and is extremely popular up in Connecticut. We need to get a strong and well known challenger, and put Lieberman to the test.
Lieberman's test is tomorrow. If he votes for it, I really want him out(more than I do now.)
And Salazar. It would take alot of courage for Salazar to vote against the nomination-- considering Salazar is friends etc. with Gonzalez. If he votes against the confirmation, we need to show him our gratitude, and we will see that he truly will be a great Senator.
If he votes for it... well, yeah.
Im thinking there is a possibility that we will get at least one Republican on our side too. Anyone agree?
Btw.. Jeffords also will join us.
But how can we win this? How is it possible? Anyone?
