NPR's Latest Travesty
This morning, NPR "discussed" the suitability of John Negroponte as Bush's new intelligence czar.
So, who do they get to offer an expert opinion on the whole issue?
Why none other than former "Democratic congressman" Gary Schmidt . . . who just so happens to also be one of the big mucky-mucks at the neo-con Project for a New American Century.
Now, here's what I found amazing.
In all the years that I've been listening to NPR, I have not heard them ONCE mention PNAC.
Suddenly, however, when they want an "expert" opinion on Negroponte, they choose to go to the head of the "conservative think tank" (their words) for an opinion on the whole issue. In essence, they asked an imperialistic neo-con to weigh in on the appointment of another amoral imperialist.
(Funny how NPR never mentioned PNAC during the whole run-up to the Iraq War.)
Pretty "balanced" range of opinions on the whole issue from the "liberal" NPR, don't you think?
The other thing that I find interesting is how brilliant this strategy was of going to Schmidt. I mean, the guy was a former DEMOCRATIC Congressman who supposedly monitored Negroponte's activities throughout the 1980s. Thus, with the choice of Schmidt to weigh in on the nomination of Negroponte, the illusion of a "bi-partisan" consensus on the whole issue was created.
I even loved the question that the NPR whore asked Schmidt: "How well did Negroponte acquit himself from the controversies of the 1980s?"
And of course, what do you think this "bi-partisan" neo-con expert said?
Well, if you guessed that he said that Negroponte acquitted himself quite well, then you would have been right.
The other glaring omission in this morning's broadcast: Not once did the NPR whore talk about what the specific actions or allegations were concerning Negroponte's 1980s activities during the that make him such a controversial figure.
Look folks: NPR stands for National Propaganda Radio. If you consider yourself a true liberal or progressive and you continue to support these people with your contributions, then you are cooperating with and contributing to your own undoing.
