Those of you around here alot might know that I am not the first to defend the Democratic Party. Or all members of the Democratic Party. In fact, my last diary was about how Lieberman has to go.
Yes, Lieberman has to go.
Yes, We could and should have better leaders.
Yes, This Party does not represent us as well as it should.
BUT ITS ENOUGH!
The collective mood around Dkos in.. just about the past week or so.. has been so dim! You would think the Republicans control every seat in Congress, that we have no chance of ever winning again, and that the Democratic Party has absolutely no influence in the Country anymore.
No, Bush is not Hitler. No, the FCC is not going to shut down this blog. As one diarist put it "savor our time together".
This is not happening! Yes, Bush is evil. But he is not stupid. We have checks and balances in this country. We also have elections. Fear will not get our country back. Hope will.
Yes, of course we must mobilize and defeat the Republicans. And yes, OF COURSE we must mobilize and defeat the Democrats like Lieberman and Nelson who act like Republicans. But constantly complaining about how "they are not Democrats" will not get the job done.
If you want action, do something about it!
In the late 1990's, when it did not look good for the Republican Party(they were in our position now, only they had it slightly better), did you hear alot of whining saying "the Republican Party is too left!"? Maybe from some Constitution Party crazies. But not from the collective party.
We are not Constitution Party Crazies.
The world is not coming to an end.
We can win this.
Stop the complaining and the state of despair. The world and country will side with us.
We are the Democratic Party. We are the party of hope. We are the party of the working and poor.
Lets continue being the party of hope. We can start internally, with our own party. We can win this. We need to win 15 house seats. That is not incredibly huge.
The Grassroots is not failing. The Grassroots has gotten candidates elected on the Local, State, and National Level that just a year ago we would not thought possible. If it was not for the grassroots, Dean would never have emerged as a frontrunner. Dean would not be DNC head now. As DNC head now, we would have another DLC type guy. If the grassroots hadn't shown its power, we would have had a Lieberman type running on our ticket. That would have killed the Democratic Party. The grassroots has helped our party stay mainly intact. If it was not for it(and by it, I mean US), we would be talking about if the Democratic-Republicans or the Constitution Party would win in 2006. Not a true fight on many fronts of the Party of Hope Vs. The Party of Fear.
Preparing for 2008 starts now. I cannot stand the comments that say 2008 does not matter, Bush has a lock on the entire process.
He doesn't.
But thinking like that will do nothing but increase the chances that that will happen.
