Continuing updates below the flip! We were mentioned on MSNBC! Here's the video.
Yesterday I diaried a question about the possibilities of the left and right sides of the blogosphere joining together to protest the bankruptcy bill. It hit the top of the Reclist. I've since launched the kickoff over at Politology.
It has momentum: it's been picked up by InstaPundit and JustOneMinute. Tacitus and RedState have released a joint statement opposing the bill. Twenty to thirty other blogs have endorsed the statement on Politology so far.
We need more support and more ideas on what to do - the Senate is debating NOW, so keep calling your Senators. But the next possibilities are organizing a call-in day before the House vote, targetting committee members, and trying to do something to get Bush to veto it.
If nothing else, it's high time for a display of willingness to work together among both sides of the blogosphere. Politology will be writing more about this subject in particular in the future.
UPDATES:
Friday Action Alert: Call your Senators - either party - and register your displeasure.
Details.
Bill passes Senate, 74-25.
The coalition got a mention on MSNBC Connected today - pointers to the url and a graphic showing the front page. Thanks to
Jeff Jarvis.
It might be worth contacting your Republican Senators and telling them there is significant, late-breaking public Republican opposition to this bill.
UPDATE:We could learn from the conservatives on this one. We think in terms of targeting the congresscritters, but what about targeting the media? Name your suggestions for columnists we could hound to write about bipartisan opposition among the blogosphere. Or write them yourself and give status.
