By hook or by crook, you have the opportunity to vote in both a Republican primary, and a Democratic primary.
In the Republican primary, the choice is between a hard-core right-winger, and a right-leaning centrist, like what happened with Arlen Specter last time.
In the Democratic primary, the choice is between a progressive, and a left-leaning centrist (maybe DLC or whatever).
In the general, you know that either party's centrist would have better odds of defeating the other party's non-centrist, whereas the other matchups would have outcomes impossible to predict.
So what do you do? Poll below.
The options are dizzying. You could vote for the right-winger and the Dem centrist, in hopes that the Republican would be easier to defeat in the general. You could vote for both the progressive and the right-winger for the better debate in the general. You could vote for both centrists to limit downside and have an even fight. You could vote for the progressive and the GOP centrist, to knock out the right-winger and then be able to publicize progressive ideals in the general, even if it probably wouldn't lead to a win. What option would you take?
