I just read a fascinating post on Professor Juan Cole's blog,
Informed Comment, about American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and the
Larry Franklin espionage case. Now I know some members of the Democratic party are ardent defenders of Israel, and everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'm sure many of you will agree that espionage against the U.S. by a foreign power on American soil is a
serious breach of our national security.
Juan Cole said:
"...AIPAC functions as a foreign agent in the US without having to register as such, and some of its major officers clearly have been deeply involved in espionage for Israel for years. The last two points are uncontestable.
Is this really a situation that serves the American people?"

This is a chance, there will certainly be more, for Democrats to prove they are stronger on national security than the corrupt Republican party. Professor Cole ends his post by making an appeal to readers to write their Congressional representatives.
"I hope everyone who reads this will consider writing their Congressional representatives and senators and asking them to work to see that AIPAC is made to register as the agent of a foreign power, given the repeated pattern whereby it acts as such."
As such, I have written my Congressional represenatatives and I will post in this diary a form letter if others wish to do the same.
Dear Representative/Senator (first name, last name),
I am one of your constituents in (city), (state) (zip code).
I write to you today to ask you to ensure that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) registers as an agent of a foreign power. I am sure you have been following the Larry Franklin case closely and must be aware that he pleaded guilty to espionage against the United States. His co-conspirators- Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman were employed by AIPAC and their cases are pending in our courts. The intelligence gathering activities of Franklin, Rosen and Weissman- on behalf of Israel- are a serious breach of national security.
I am aware that under federal law, agents of foreign powers must register with the federal government. As a constituent I ask that you ensure that federal law is enforced. Our national security is vital and a serious breach- like the Larry Franklin case- cannot be tolerated.
A very concerned citizen,
