On Friday evening Kos posted an idea from Aravosis that the Democrats should take a page from the GOP's Murtha stunt and put forth a resolution that Bush is doing a fantastic job in Iraq. The idea was to force them to publicly say they supported this train-wreck to the bitter end or to refuse to back their Dear Leader. ,today through the gift of local talk radio, I got one Republican Congresswoman to say she would vote for such a resolution.
Rep. Thelma Drake (R-VA) is a first term Congresswoman who last year beat Fightin' Dem David Ashe for the seat that was vacated when our previous Republican Congressman was found to frequent a Gay Dating Service. This morning she appeared on the local morning talk show and began by bragging about Friday's charade. She described the Hunter resolution as a way to support our troops and show it to the world. So I dialed the station and eventually I got on the air. I began by saying that I didn't appreciate that the Republicans put forth a resolution and tried to claim that it represented the thoughts of a Democrat. She denied that this was so. So I said "Well I hope now the Democrats will put forward this resolution: It is the opinion of this body that George Bush is doing a fantastic job in Iraq and he shouldn't change a thing." The host, an independent/libertarian type named Tony Macrini began to laugh. But Rep. Drake seemed to think it was a great idea. "You know something, that resolution would probably pass!" So I continued "Well then, Representative Drake, please put this forward because I WANT THOSE NAMES." My apologies to Aravosis for not giving him credit. Now I'm going to write Thelma Drake a letter and formally request that she put forth this amendment after the Thanksgiving recess. If any of you live in her district, please join me. If any of you live in the land of other Republican dopes, feel free to seek out your own co-sponsor. It would be beautiful to get these people on the record.
