It is now illegal to give food to someone who is indigent in a park or public place in these two cities. This legislation is being mulled over in other cities.
But, don't worry .. if the person who is hungry has money and a place to live, it's OK; you can sell him or give him as much food as you want.
What type of nonsense is this? How do we know who is homeless, and who is not?
It's OK to feed the squirrels or a stray dog or cat, but not human beings.
If there is a good part to this story, it's the fact I learned something new today .. tip of the hat to these people who are trying to help the poor and homeless.
I sent them $5, which I cannot afford as I am being squeezed to bits by a 35% increase in health insurance costs and a reduction in the families medical coverage. But $5 I can find, somehow.
We need money to help us provide food to the survivors of Katrina and the thousands of people that were made homeless. We also need money to support the Food Not Bombs movement in Africa and other very poor areas of the world. Food Not Bombs is feeding people in Nigeria and plans to start programs in Niger, Mali and Borkina Faso. We are still providing food to the survivors of Katrina and we plan to be ready for this year's hurricane season. Many survivors are living in communities all over the United States and Food Not Bombs volunteers are including them in our movement. Imagine if a million people send in one dollar just think how much more Food Not Bombs can do!

There is something really disgusting in the imagery of the police arresting someone who is trying to feed the homeless.
I know, there are all sorts of 'justifications' for this legislation, but it just gets to me that we can do this, the most powerful nation on Earth.
Where are those fine Christian-Judeo concepts, to take care of your fellow man? I was shocked reading some of the op-eds in the local papers that support this legislation; the class warfare is vile.
