This is my first diary. I am so grateful for this place to air my thoughts. Thank you kos.
Germany:
Is it just me or has anyone else wondered about the fast-rising star of the Christian Democrat party in Germany? Maybe I'm ascribing powers to our current government that it doesn't have, but Shroder certainly did tick off the WH with the Hitler comparison. We have been known, ahem, to mess with other country's governments.
England:
At the press conference with Blair this week, when asked about the Downing Street Memo, didn't Bush say something to the effect that "someone" [accusing stare] brought that out during Blair's run for office, "not that I'm saying it was anyone here." Didn't it seem like he thought that it was? Isn't it like a liar to always think everyone else lies?
Another thing about the Bush/Blair press conference was the body language between Laura and Condi. Again, is it just me or did there seem to be an iceberg between their two seats? Condi looked diminished somehow.
France:
After the big NON from France on the EU Constitution, all the media talk was about how France was bringing down the EU. I don't know all the details of the constitution itself, but it seemed France's No was a No to globalization. What is so right about flowering the planet with McDonald's and Pizza Huts? Why is that considered progress? I have a story here: Several months ago I had an appointment to get my taxes done at H&R Block. I couldn't find the office so I called the tax consultant on the phone to get directions. She told me that the office was right across from the Wendy's and Wal-Mart and next to Payless Shoes. I was standing looking at the landmarks and still couldn't find the tax office. Why? I was in the wrong strip mall. Isn't it great that every city in the US looks almost exactly the same? Someone needs to re-travel the route taken in Blue Highways and note the changes that have been made in the name of progress in the last 23 years.
Venezuela, Ecuador, and Bolivia:
The No to the U.S. is getting louder every day.
