I clicked through on the current daily kos front page ad to see what TV Watch is up to. Looks like a broad swath of industry and ideologically aligned groups against government regulation. I am in general opposed to any additional censorship of programming for adults, but the group's statement that "Parents have the tools they need to make informed decisions" does not hold up with me.
Children in the US are harmed every day by shills for the fast food and junk food industries. I refer kos readers to check out links on www.commercial alert.org. Check out the proposed Parents Bills of Rights. It is needed legislation. I do not know if this is what TV Watch is organizing against from their ad, but if they are- look further as they certainly do not seem to be looking out for my interest as a parent of a young child.

I just want a similar level of protection for my toddler as european children. Many countries in Europe do not allow marketing targeted to children under 8 years old, some prohibit marketing to children under 12. This is just good sense. Advertising creeps into every part of the public sphere. Lets draw the line at Children's programming and our school classrooms. How much marketing happens with zero disclosure? Undisclosed Product Placement, planted marketing shills in hip hop culture, the list goes on.
Full disclosure I do give some money to Commercial Alert and I have had their Executive Director, Gary Ruskin to my home for dinner. It is a great organization. One of their board members, Juliet Schorr has a book out "Born to Buy" that is exactly on point.
