A couple of days ago, I posted a diary with a link over to a video I put together during the course of this past week. It is set to the song
Runaway Train, by Soul Asylum - "wrong way on a one-way track" just seemed compatible with the current state of affairs in this country. Anyway, the video contrasts lots of deeply sentimental images of the Constitution and the Founding Fathers with images of recent headlines and Abu Ghraib, ending with a familiar image of our pouty-faced president under an "IMPEACH" banner.
The transition is provided with a simple slide stating what should be on every Democrat's list of talking points: DEEP DOWN, YOU KNOW SOMETHING HAS CHANGED.
Based on an excellent suggestion I received, the video has been changed. The change and a link are below...
The old video ended with a series of gorgeous portraits of some of the Founding Fathers. Washington... Adams... Jefferson... Madison. Text on the slides state LOOK ME IN THE EYES... AND TELL ME... THAT MY CONSTITUTION... IS STILL WORKING, fading to the impeach image at the end.
Someone suggested adding a slide just before the end which zooms and pans the text from the Constitution that discusses impeachment. While we lose the stark and sudden contrast between the Founding Fathers and He Who Must Not Be Named, it definitely helps anchor the call for impeachment with the Constitution.
The call for impeachment has always been anchored in the Constitution, of course. But sometimes it helps to SEE it.
It's the... the... Constitutional Option!
Anyway, if you're interested in seeing the new version, or if you never saw the original, just click on the image below and it will take you to a video-streaming site that is hosting it.
If you want to download copies to keep, Avila and the other fine folks over at The Impeach Project have generously offered to host it as well (only the original version is there now, though). It is currently only available in Windows Media format, but I'm told that a Quicktime version may be available soon.
