I read the Washington Post story of February 5, 2006 and a couple things struck me as unusual, but the most disconcerting is that at least one third of the telecommunications traffic being eavesdropped upon is from one foreign country to another foreign country. Evidently, the communications are funneled through the United States where the hardware resides. Wow! I wonder if our allies - if we have any left - understand this. Foreign businessman's conversations tapped. Foreign politician's conversations tapped. What other information that should be privileged that has nothing to do with terrorism is being tapped? Moreover, are we to trust the Administration that all they are listening for is terrorism language? And where is the check on their power? The more I look at this the more I realize that this is really a bad idea and how does any of this effort catch bin Laden?
