We talk about Health care as a major issue? Now is the time for you to write your Senator then, and I mean Pronto. Currently the Senate is considering measure S.1955 which is dubbed and no I am not making this up "Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and affordability Act.? Okay this should be a big GIANT red flag to anyone familiar other bills passed by this President and and Congress (See Clean Skies etc). Join me down below for a few tidbits!
Basically the good old GOP has put this bill up which would take away nearly all state laws that require coverage from important medical rights currently given by states such as alternative care or certain screenings. This is a HUGE deal for us just a small list of what this threatens to take away:
Cervical/Prostate cancer screenings, Bone marrow transplants (ya i know people really go through that just because)bone marrow transplants, alcoholism and drug abuse treatment, mental health services, breast reconstruction, minimum maternity stay, provision of diabetic supplies, inclusion of domestic partners in policy coverage, direct access to your OB-GYN, continuity of care during pregnancy, mammography, contraceptives, infertility diagnosis and treatment.
Our good friends over at consumerwatchdog have a full list of things this threatens just click me!! to see all the gory details. This list should horrify all of us and we need some immediate attention to get this thing pounced on and pummeled. Basically what the bill will due is take away all insurance requirments passed by states. Many states sometimes referred to in the insurance industry as the "dirty blues" require that in order for a company to provide health insurance they must offer coverage for certain things such as alternative medicine, this bill negate them. Medicare and prescription drug benefits have already been ransacked by these guys lets stop them in their tracks right now on this one!
A short little trip over to the good folks at Govtrack yields a some nice facts on the bill. The republican sponsors should surprise no one Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) and Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) however we need to put a hurting on the asshat dem sponsor Ben Nelson from NE. I trust my fellow Kossacks to drop him a line and let him know this is NOT a bill a Democrat should be attached to as this is not what our party is about. One last closing thought anyone else find it ironic the party that is all about state rights is trying to slip a bill in yet again weakening state's rights.
