After last night's discussion about the
Worst Generation in All History, I figured we should see if we can also choose which decade was the worst. Below, I have provided you with information about each of the decades from the 1920s to the present. Please read the following descriptions carefully and then choose which one you feel has destroyed America.
By the way, some nit-picky historians have said that, for cultural purposes, the 1950s actually extends into the 1960s, and the 1960s extends into the 1970s, etc. Whatever. I've simplified it because it's always good to lump things together into categories whenever you can.
1920s: Consumer culture caught on, people love it. Buy stuff because it's good for America and because it's good to buy stuff. Finish up a war that no one can find a reason for. Show off ankles.
1930s: Depression. Keep buying stuff to save America.
1940s: Stop fascists. America is best country in the world. Still shopping.
1950s: Create traditional America. Watch TV. Shop.
1960s: Create counterculture to oppose the tradition that was created in the 1950s. Fight a losing war against Commie bastards. Smoke pot. Buy stuff.
1970s: Get out of the war. Wear bellbottoms. Find out that presidents lie. Go shopping.
1980s: Traditional America finally gets someone in the White House. Get rid of Commie bastards. Go to the mall.
1990s: Pay more attention to President's sex life than to his political life. Find new way to talk to people without having to look at them. Build Mall of America.
Today: Go fight in a war for vague ideas of freedom and democracy. Don't realize that we don't have a democracy, maybe never have. Arguing about immigrants so President can do other stuff we don't like. Still buying stuff; that never stopped. Buying stuff is good because as long as we have our cars and our computers and our TVs and all our other shit, life is good.
There you go!
