Greyhair at bendtherail posted that on August 18th, the United States' war in Iraq will equal in days the United States' part in World War II (Pearl Harbor to VE Day- Victory in Europe- 1,248 days).
Of course, the United States' part in World War II was a little longer. The length of time in days from Pearl Harbor to VJ Day was 1,345.
Therefore, if Greyhair is correct and if my math is correct, the day we can acknowledge that the Iraq War has been as long as World War II (the part we were in) will be the day families gather to celebrate the most distinctively American holiday (yes, more than Independence Day; lots of countries have one):
Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2006.
