A new Congressional Quarterly (CQ) survey has moved the race in Maryland's 6th District, where the incumbent is 80 year old Republican Roscoe Bartlett, from "Safe Republican" to "Favored Republican."
The article cites the difficulties for any Democratic challenger in the race:
the 6th District has the most conservative constituency among Maryland's eight districts.
and
Redistricting by the Democratic-controlled legislature early this decade made the district even more Republican in order to bolster Democratic majorities in other districts
But
the article goes on to highlight Andrew Duck's favorable chances to win this seat:
This year, though, as Republican Party fortunes have waned in general, Bartlett is facing the most spirited challenge he has seen in years. Democratic nominee Andrew Duck entered the race as a political unknown and he still has a small campaign treasury. But his background as a former Army Intelligence officer and Iraq War veteran -- and his easy-to-remember last name -- are drawing Duck more attention than Bartlett's previous longshot challengers.
The Duck campaign can REALLY use Kossacks' help. Money for airtime goes far in this district; please help get the message out.
This district has been "under the radar" because of the Republican's incumbency and the factors listed above. In prior years, the Democrats haven't even tried -- with either a good candidate or an effort.
Andrew has stepped up just like he did in Bosnia & Iraq: to take responsibility for his troops and our country. This race IS winnable if we can just get $$$$$ and volunteers!!
Let's honor Andrew's service by doing everything we can to help him win this race!!!!
Are you with me, folks???
