I recently received and email from the DCCC but signed by Nancy Pelosi. I went to her
website and used the 'contact' button to send her a response. I wrote it all out and sent it, only to be notified that if I wasn't a constituent, that it wouldn't be processed, and to visit her
website as Speaker of the House. There wasn't an email button on that site, so I'm posting it here:
Dear Speaker Pelosi: I recently received an email from you... well, it was from DCCC but it claimed to be from you... in which you said, in part:
That's the kind of tangible progress that you have brought within reach by devoting yourself so enthusiastically to supporting the work of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. I've received hundreds of emails in the last few days congratulating me and the DCCC -- thank you, and congratulations to you as well. You were a part of history, and we would not have a new direction in America without you. Thank you for all you have done and for all that I know you will do as we work side-by-side to lead America forward. With deep appreciation, Nancy Pelosi
And it has this addendum:
P.S. It wouldn't be fair to the DCCC's Chairman and leader, Rahm Emanuel and his incredible staff if I didn't add one last point. The Committee poured every available dollar into winning the majority on November 7th -- and I congratulate and thank them and most of all hope that you will stay with them. Even now, some races are not yet decided, and we need to make sure every vote is counted. Our best teams of lawyers and organizers have been dispatched -- if you can, please continue to support the DCCC today. Support the DCCC.
I humbly disagree. Yes, Rahm Emmanuel and the DCCC did play a part in the Democratic Wave that shook up Washington and the Republicans, but so did Dr Howard Dean with his 50 State strategy, the DNC, the grassroots, and the netroot communities. I saw nothing in your letter acknowledging this.
I know in the case of my own brother, Jerry McNerney, he was practically shunned by the DCCC who fielded its own candidate in the primary, which Jerry handily beat.
The DCCC shouldn't be involved in primaries in the 1st place. They should have targeted Pombo in the place. And how did they help him? By letting him flap in the breeze, raise his own money, manage his own campaign, and defeat Pombo. Only when it became clear that Jerry had a real chance did the DCCC acknowlegde him by producing and airing one measly commercial in the district two weeks before the election.
I can support the DCCC, but the committee and Emmanuel do not stand alone in the credit for getting Jerry elected and sending almost 30 new Democrats to the House this January. Your letter and plea to support the DCCC makes me cringe, because it outlines alliances of Beltway insiders that I believe will at best have no beneficial effect on Democratic electorate nor Democratic Congressional behavior, and at worst will damage both.
Sincerely,
John M McNerney, Somers, CT
