Dear Netroots Supporters,
It's now been over a week since you helped to send a message to Washington - a message of hope for a better America, a message of change. Since I started this journey over a year ago, I always hoped to be a part of that change in Washington. Not many people believed in me from the very beginning. Not many people thought the son of a cop and a legal secretary born in a row home in Northeast Philadelphia could ever help to bring change to Washington.
But you all believed in me from the very beginning. And I couldn't be more grateful for your support.
You all believed in possibility. You believed in optimism. You believed that together, we can make America a better place.
As the first - and only - Iraq war veteran elected to Congress, I will never forget how this journey started. For me, it began in the streets of Baghdad in 138 degree heat. We were sent to fight a war without enough troops, without the appropriate tools, and without a plan to win the peace. The 19 men in my unit who didn't return home deserved a government as honest and accountable as they were.
With your help, we are moving towards honesty in government - and towards a government accountable to not just this generation, but generations to come.
Again, thank you all for your support - and never stop fighting to change America for the better.
Sincerely,
Patrick J. Murphy
Congressman-elect, Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District
