CNN is reporting that John Boehner has been elected House Minority Leader over Mike Pence by an overwhelming margin. Similarly, Roy Blunt has been reelected to his Whip position.
This vote must be seen as a defeat for principled conservatives, who hoped that Minority Leader Mike Pence (IN) and Minority Whip John Shadegg (AZ) would take a stand in favor of reform and against spending. John Boehner is one of the worst of the get-along, go-along Republicans who hands out pork and turns a blind eye to corruption in order to stay in power. Boehner received 168 votes, Pence drew 27, and Joe Barton (who'd withdrawn his name) got 1 vote. Quite a stunning comedown for the small-government golden boy whom many conservatives would like to see President.
Roy Blunt is another "pay for play" politician who harvested cash from K Street in favor of legislation favoring his sponsors.
