Well whaddya know. Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation has learned how to listen to people and their outrage, and has apparently decided to cancel the imminent publication of Orinthal Simpson's book, "If I Did It."
CNN just has a banner at the moment, citing the Associated Press.
In case you've been living under a rock, O.J. Simpson killed his wife and her friend and got away with it 10 or so years ago, and has since been searching for the "real killer" on various golf courses around Florida. Now he's "written" a book, published by shock specialist Judith Regan for News Corporation, detailing how he would have done it, if he had. She also "interviewed" him for a TV special that was to air on Fox.
Naturally, the outrage around the country was immediate and loud. Apparently, loud enough for the brass at News Corp to hear.
Never thought I'd say this, but, good on ya, Rupert.
UPDATE:
MSNBC now has the story.
NEW YORK - After a firestorm of criticism, News Corp. said Monday that it has canceled the O.J. Simpson book and television special “If I Did It.”
“I and senior management agree with the American public that this was an ill-considered project,” said Rupert Murdoch, News Corp. chairman. “We are sorry for any pain that his has caused the families of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson.”
A dozen Fox affiliates had already said they would not air the two-part sweeps month special, planned for next week before publication of the book. It was being published by ReganBooks, a HarperCollins imprint owned, like the Fox network, by News Corp.
