At the end of the midterm election cycle a number of blogs were regularly organizing calls to action and neighborhood parties, and covering local races in a very in-depth way. These blogs played a role in winning the election, and so I think we should organize a 50 state blog strategy. As an initial step, I intend to setup a webpage listing the main state-level blogs for more local coverage.
This idea is in very early stages, and the scope and form haven’t been worked out. Blogs take on many forms, as I am sure you all know, and calls to action are as important as the local coverage of the politicians and in a little over a year, races.
So, part of the goal of this diary is to solicit blogs for inclusion, what blogs should be included, and how to organize the relevant information. Ideally, we’d like you guys to let us know what blogs you follow locally and write a little blog blurb.
Follow me below the fold:
This idea grew out of noting a few posts on Dkos complaining about the lack of action at a local level between now and ’08. In particular, some state and local parties do not have the resources to start efforts for ’08. Now is the time to organize and get the machinery set up for the big push in ’08.
Integrating this idea into the existing blogworld is an important consideration. Lefty Blogs which is a depository for all blogs posts relating to each state and the coming efforts covering politicians in action, such as Progressive Wave already cover some aspect of local politics, or finding current local information. However, I’d like to see a useful guide for sites like Not Larry Sabato and Keystone Politics with descriptions. This list is by no means complete, but rather aims to give examples.
Already, I see three clear groups:
- Calls to Action and Get out the vote
- Local Politicians and races
- Local issues
I am sure there are more, so give me your thoughts and we’ll kick around some ideas for how best to approach this project.
