Here's a little follow up on irishwitch's diary What the Anti-Harry Potter Mom Doesn’t Get. There is some news coming out from Atlanta today recommending that the Harry Potter books be allowed to stay on the school library shelves.
Follow me down for a little more.
Here's a link to the dkospedia page on the filer of the lawsuit, Laura Mallory. She wants the Gwinnett County schools to pull the Harry Potter books off the shelves of the school library. Mrs. Mallory's contention is that the books attempt to "indoctrinate children in the Wicca religion." Needless to say, she hasn't actually read the books in question. She just knows that they're bad. She's been fighting the case up the line, since pretty much everybody seems to be disagreeing with her.
And today, ketv in Atlanta reports that Harry Potter Books Remain In Georgia Library. It's not quite the end, but a hearing officer is recommending that the books be allowed to remain on the school shelves. The Georgia State Board of Education will be meeting on Thursday to vote on the report.
I wonder what Mrs. Mallory will do if the Board of Education does agree with the hearing officer.
