I could not interact with this diary (see link below) for some reason so I decided to write my own diary.
Update: I thank those who have commented, but no one seems to have addressed the question I was asking: Can a community such as the bloggers here create and cultivate something like a system (as in new law, perhaps) much like happened with the internet, the web, digital technology, etc. by taking on the task and 'just doing it'? Forget about the government taking the lead.
Prompted by the perceived need for some sweeping changes in our energy infrastructure...
Looking forward to replies...

taraka das posted this diary earlier:

I tried to make a comment and it wouldn't work. So I copied my comment to a wordprocessor and present it to you here:
I was inclined to comment at several different points reading the discussion in this diary. For some reason, the option to recommend a comment or add my own comment to a comment seems to be missing. Any explanation for that?
I probably missed an official announcement why, from the Kos on high, which is easy to do since he doesn't provide any 'home page' where such stuff is/stays available to the folks who can't read every damned word that comes out of this site.
Or there's another explanation, perhaps...
Anyway, kudos to taraka for the comparison to the internet!
I've recently begun to realize that the internet, and/or the web, actually was a grass roots sort of phenomenon, kickstarted by military and then other federal funding of one sort or another, but essentially self defined, self directed, self generated and intended by those who made the most significant contributions, to do the most good for the most people with the least possible impediment built in!. Open source software is another less influential example.
I can't see the means by which such an approach to dealing with global warming, peak oil, warmongering idiots, etc, can be implemented by 'we the people' without interference from the folks with money, self interest, warped political ideologies, and evil in their hearts. But I sure hope someone can suggest the way. The standard approach of deferring to our governmental representatives, takes too long, distorts the results, serves the wrong agendas, and costs us too much money. Let's 'open source' (for lack of a better term) the way to dealing with our problems--take it out of their hands.
Hope this tickles your common sense...

Please read the diary that started it all and comment there or here. I'd really like to know why commenting wasn't available. But more important I'd love to hear other insights using the example of the development of the internet as an inspiration for individual/community enterprises.
It just dawned on me, that maybe Energize America, is one example! Please comment...
