OK, maybe everyone hasn't taken the time to read the Sy Hersh article on the middle east. If not, proceed immediately to the link below:

There is so much here but I'm shocked that Dailykos does not have a recommended diary highlighting the most explosive charge Hersh is making - that Cheney is engaged in directing covert operations to foment instability throughout the middle east without congressional approval, and possibly with funds absconded from Iraqi reconstruction. Recall that there are billions of dollars unaccounted for in the Iraqi Reconstruction project. The main point is that, somehow, the strengthening of Iran after the Iraqi invasion was unforeseen (???) and that now the administration is scrambling to strengthen Sunni groups, many with links to Al Qaeda, in order to counter a Shia power grab.
We have been here before, as have many of the players, including Prince Bandar, Elliot Abrams and John Negroponte. It was called Iran Contra. In fact, Hersh reports that Negroponte did not want to get dirty in an Iran Contra repeat and therefore resigned his position as the National Intelligence Director.
Fellas, if this is even remotely true and it is exposed it could mean the end of Cheney and the entire neocon cabal.
Congress needs to investigate NOW!!! We need to elevate this issue so our representatives start asking questions and calling people to testify.
