I've been reading DKos and other sites for a couple of years now, getting totally energized/pissed off/motivated/depressed at each and every new diary. Not at the diaries, of course, but at the state of our world. It needs help, things need to be changed. I want to do something.
OK, that's easy. DKos is very good at getting pissed-off progressives like myself motivated to do something to change the world, as it were. The hard part, for me, has always been... what do I do?
My story on the flip...
I'm a stay-at-home Dad taking care of two young children, 3 and 1. I can't race off to demonstrations, I don't have a network of people to work with, I can't really even get out for an evening to meet with other progrssives, or the local democratic party, or anything.
I managed to get the day last November and worked the polls (ironically as a Republican rep. It seemed they had more than enough people to man the Dem side in this rather Dem-leaning district, but were in such a bind for Repubs that they recruited some Dems to work as Repubs.) Seeing our election process in action rocked, no question.
But working the polls twice a year doesn't quite make me feel like I'm making the world a better place. Also, making things harder, my family recently moved to this new location, on the other side of the country, and I don't know anyone here. So I sit at home and read DKos and mydd and other places and get fired up and then... go change a diaper.
I want to DO something.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any thoughts or comments you folks may have.
