In a post-Imus world, you would think that even the wingnuttiest of talk radio hosts would know better than to launch into a racial tirade against Chinese-Americans during a live broadcast.
Well, if that's what you thought, you would be wrong.
According to a news story from the Victor Valley Daily Press, local ultra-conservative talk radio host Barb Stanton has been suspended indefinitely for attacking Asian-Americans.
You can read the article here: http://www.vvdailypress.com/...
Specifically, KIXW talk radio host Barb Stanton - who frequently attacks progressive and moderate Democrats as unpatriotic - told her audience in reposnse to a report that a locally-owned bank was in the process of merging with a bank based in China "We are going to see more Chinese faces in the bank than ever before, I predict...it’s going to be a big time for all, except for us, the true Americans. ... The big players have got it all laid out and panned out and, unfortunately, we are going to be at the bottom of the pan."
Not only did she blast Chinese-Americans, this wingnut had her facts completely wrong: the proposed merger has nothing to do with an overseas bank; the financial institution is American-based, with an Asian-American serving as its president.
Continuing her racist rant, Stanton said "Look, there is a Chinese-looking guy, I am not trying to be scurrilous towards him, a foreigner, let me say that, with the last name of Ing, Ng, I don’t know how to pronounce it," she said. "I’d better get used to it, I guess."
In a rare display of corporate responsibility, Clear Channel Communications did the right thing and suspended this incendiary individual. However, we need to keep the pressure on - Republican Party hate has no place on our airwaves.
We didn't let Ann Coulter get a pass on her homophobic slur. Many of us were justifiably outraged at Don Imus.
Although many of you never heard of her before, Barb Stanton with her three-hour afternoon show is a significant Republican opinion leader in San Bernardino County - a county where we local Democrats are just starting to reverse a trend of weakening registration. It is imperative that Stanton be held accountable for her actions.
Tell Clear Channel there is no room for hate on our dial and its time for her to permanantly go. Please e-mail CC management at joe@talk960.com
