Those guys would be the rabid troglodytes Bush, Cheney and the rest of their mutant, warmongering acolytes. There’s a transcript up at Think Progress where Hersh makes that comment. Of course Hersh said this because he fears, as he has for more than a year, that the Cheney, err Bush Administration will bomb Iran.
Cheney’s vampire crypt has finally been pried open for all to see this week by the series in the Washington Post and that has merged with Cheney’s absurd claims on absolute power. It is urgent to revisit an important story that came out less than a month ago, now that Cheney’s evil nature has once again been revealed.
The headline in the May 24, The Washington Note:
Cheney Attempting to Constrain Bush's Choices on Iran Conflict: Staff Engaged in Insubordination Against President Bush
Or, as I diaried at the time regarding this Steve Clemons story:
Mad Dog Cheney out of control – a government unto himself!
What Clemons reported and I headlined has been confirmed ‘big time’ by the WaPo series. This was an important story that had several diaries on it a month ago, but didn’t generate a Kossack chain reaction last month, so it’s time to remind folks of what remains an important story.
We have to assume the secret Cheney junta is still ‘planning and plotting’ an attack on Iran using its same modus operandi it used to run roughshod over the entire Bush government in the run-up to the Iraq War.
As I noted from Clemons report a month ago:
Multiple sources have reported that a senior aide on Vice President Cheney's national security team has been meeting with policy hands of the American Enterprise Institute, one other think tank, and more than one national security consulting house and explicitly stating that Vice President Cheney does not support President Bush's tack towards Condoleezza Rice's diplomatic efforts and fears that the President is taking diplomacy with Iran too seriously.
This White House official has stated to several Washington insiders that Cheney is planning to deploy an "end run strategy" around the President if he and his team lose the policy argument.
The thinking on Cheney's team is to collude with Israel, nudging Israel at some key moment in the ongoing standoff between Iran's nuclear activities and international frustration over this to mount a small-scale conventional strike against Natanz using cruise missiles (i.e., not ballistic missiles).
REPEAT the Vice President of the United States is planning to deploy an "end run strategy" around the President.
Last month I wrote, ‘That is unprecedented in American history,’ but now reporting has shown that to be not so unprecedented for Cheney.
Clemons important story has been confirmed by other news organizations over the past month.
Hersh has been concerned about an attack on Iran for over a year. His observations on Cheney’s ability to ignore facts track with this week’s WaPo reporting:
Anyway, they believe — the intelligence community keeps on saying, "There’s no bomb there (in Iran)." And Cheney keeps on saying to the young briefing officers, "Thank you son, I don’t buy that," in that nice pleasant tone.
There is a powerful, toxic cocktail in the White House. It’s one part Cheney, the terrible tyrant who does not believe in this Republic and does not accept facts that conflict with the warmongering outcome he wishes to impose on us peasants.
It’s also one part Decider – deciding from the options Cheney’s already decided on. And the sociopathic, narcissistic Decider will never admit failure. This is the truly scary part - he’s trapped and can never face the failure he in fact is. Hersh says Bush fancies himself Churchill and that history will vindicate him.
Mix this toxic Cheney/Chimpy combination together and Hirsh says:
And so, what they think they’re doing — and you can’t use the word "delusional," it’s actually in the DSM, it’s a medical term — wacky.
Hersh continues that they really don’t need Iran to have ‘a stinkin bomb’.
And they believe that whether Iran has a bomb now or not, they can get one from Pakistan, from the Russian black market, and Nasrallah - the Hezbollah terrorist group — is embedded in America, even though there’s no evidence of that. They would be capable of getting a bomb smuggled into New York or Washington or wherever.
So it’s still shoot first and ask questions later. More accurately, it’s don’t ask questions later, and personally attack anyone who asks the questions.
Though Cheney may not give a shit about what people think of him, I fear the news that has been reported about Cheney will compel him to walk into that ‘wacky’ failure of a President with a plan to bomb Iran on short notice. They’ve got to get it done before the American people can stop them. The rabid troglodytes Bush, Cheney have been trapped by events and bad news. The cornered jackals we have in the White House make this a very dangerous moment in our history.
