Dear Dr. Gupta,
The citizens of the USA owe you and similar highly educated physician/journalists a debt of gratitude.
In our ignorance we are prone to believe almost any misinformation if we didn't have more educated and intelligent guidance from people such ass yourself, protectin us from those who would "fudge the facts".
Indeed as you wisely pointed out in your discussion of the film "Sicko":
However, Gupta said he was concerned that the movie -- which notes that other developed nations such as France and Canada have universal health care --suggests that health care in those countries is free.
While patients may not pay for services at the doctor's office, they do pay high taxes to fund such a system, something Gupta said he was concerned that "Sicko" audiences might not realize.
You are SO correct. The idea that Canadians payed TAXES to support their healthcare system never even occured to me - I always thought it was the Easter bunny.
I was talking this over with my sister/cousin after I saw you on CNN and she told me that even here in the Land of the Free our school system isn't really "free" either and the sneaky government actually TAXES us to pay for it, and only PRETENDS that it's "free"
We really need more highly educated people such as yourself on television helping us to understand this complex issues - perhaps you could expand your coverage to education as well as healthcare.
I think this "school tax" thing has the makings of a huge story.
Sincerly,
