Okay, when I heard Larry Craig say he wasn't gay, I lost it, and fired off this email to this outstanding member of Idaho's congressional delegation.
First, Senator Craig, I have read your extremely lame excuse about how you should have consulted a lawyer regarding your washroom encounter in Minnesota. You think someone with as many years in politics as you would know one or two lawyers. Do you think your constituents are stupid enough to believe that? You insult us.
Secondly, I have been afraid for my gay friends when I walk down the street with them and hear angry voices swearing at them and calling them names. I have been saddened and hurt when my gay friend called me and told me about how he had been gaybashed walking home one night. I have been outraged when my friends were sick and dying of AIDS and Ronald Reagan and Doc Bowen pretended that this awful disease didn't exist.
I hold you hypocritical, self-righteous conservative Republicans for creating a climate of hate and neglect which has allowed these things to happen. I also resent being called a traitor, or an idiot, or godless by the yapping attack dogs the Republicans employ to divide this nation.
My baser instincts would love to see you, and Ted Haggard, and Mark Foley, and David Vigger (in his diapers, of course) chained up in stocks where you could be publically berated and humiliated. Instead, I'll watch as you begin to receive the paybacks for the persecution you helped heap on a minority group to which you are ashamed of belonging to.
Wouldn't it have been easier and less destructive to get some therapy to deal with your self-loathing and come to accept yourself and others as human beings with worth?
