It seemed like such a short while ago the blogosphere was on fire with the potential of poking a hole in BushCo's armor with a strong case against the Office of the Vice President for their outing of CIA agent Valerie Plame. We were all so giddy in anticipation of what would happen when a little light was shined on the inner workings of the worst administration. We knew deep in our hearts the public would see the light and the long dark days of secrecy would finally be broken by an empowered US populace demanding the truth be told on a litany of affronts to our society....
I remember back in 2004 taking the time to explain to one of my neighbors the whole of the Plame affair and how it would be the thread that unraveled the lies of BushCo. She knew nothing about it and was mildy intrigued. Here at DailyKos there were daily diaries about when the verdict would go down and we were practically salivating with the hope that the first of Bush's many minions would finally have to own up to his crimes. Well, we knew how that turned out, don't we?
But, hope was not lost...the elections of 2004 told us that the public was on our sides and having control of Congress would give us the tools to start investigative proceedings and we could throw the dirtbags out of Whitehouse, right?
So WTF is going on? Yeah, I realize Waxman is a thorn in their sides, but BushCo basically has told Waxman to hold his breath until he receives any of the subpoenaed materials (on an aside, how many dirty deeds would be revealed with those missing 5 million emails). On top of that, anybody who might have been implicated in the DOJ misdeeds are now happily out of public sight. When Nancy said, "Impeachment was off the table" it was like a wink to BushCo to carry on business as usual. All my hopes of anybody in BushCo actually being held accountable is gone.
What happened to the days of Fitzmas? Are our hopes of seeing any of the BushCo criminals held accountable just a fantasy?
