A few days ago, several Oklahoma state lawmakers have shown their true colors by refusing to accept a copy of the Koran. It was given in the spirit of friendship and peace. Oklahoma State
Rep. Rex Duncan, R-Sand Springs, refused a copy of the Quran earlier this week, saying, "Most Oklahomans do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology."
You know what Mr. Duncan, you need to tell Bush and Cheney that you do not endorse the idea of killing innocent women and children in the name of ideology, but I suspect the bloody irony would be lost on you.
Not only did he refuse, 24 out of 149 state lawmakers in all refused. Gov. Brad Henry (D) and Rep. Dan Sullivan (R) both Christians accepted. nanoboy has diaried the refusal. I also felt it important I chime in too.
I am appalled but not surprised by the egregious behavior of my state lawmakers. If I were given a copy of the Koran, the Upanishids, the Tao Te Ching, or even a Book of Mormon I would gratefully accept. I might not read them but I would not spit on their faith as Mr. Duncan and 23 other lawmakers have.

I hope most of my fellow Oklahomans are as ashamed of them as I am. And I also hope remember their names when Nov. 2008 comes around. Unfortunately, I know many voters would be proud of their ignorance and hate. It's why we keep electing people like Inhofe. I fervently hope we can change that in 2008.
Oklahoma lawmakers of all people should know that hatred is not the province of one religion. The state capitol building is only a few miles from where the Murrah Building stood. Never once did "Allah akbar" ever pass Timothy McVeigh's lips when he blew up those women and children.
