Please indulge me this caveat before I begin:
It's a Saturday night. My husband is working, my children are in dreamland, and I'm kickin' back and catching up on some 'tivo' recordings. Friday night's KO is what's on pause as I type. Of course, only Keith could inspire me enough to interrupt my evening to type a diary on DKos. ;-)
~~~~~~~~~~
At my point of stoppage of Friday's "Countdown", KO was interviewing Howard Fineman about the Dems' re-introducing the SCHIP Bill and how it's passage (and the act in general) pissed off georgie to the point where he appeared petulant during his "statement". That made me laugh, actually, because we've been discussing his toddler-like "attributes" for years now here on DKos and elsewhere among the Tubes.
Anyway....
What caught me was when Fineman began talking about how the Dems are "deathly afraid" of the "raising taxes" meme that always comes from the righties, like clockwork. It really got me thinking about why the Dems continue to take ownership for such a blatantly disingenuous attack. I thought, 'Why don't they just don't come out and say, "We don't want to RAISE taxes! We want to RE-ALLOCATE them!"'
In this day and age, are Americans really that thick that they won't understand this? So much could be done by simply changing around the percentage of the current level of taxes that are assessed or relieved without having to add more numbers to the mix. Good Lord! Hasn't everyone seen "Dave" yet?
Besides, I can't help but think about the possibilities for exposing the nefariousness of the republiCON party over the last, oh, 25 years or more! I drool at the prospects, really. Just by reminding people old enough to remember, the Dems would be scoring approval points around the county! And, gosh...once that genie's out of the bottle, look out!
So much dirty laundry could be aired, if we changed this frame to re-allocation, or re-distribution of taxes. By simply pointing out the blatantly obvious re-distribution of wealth that's going on, we can say that we're going to counteract that by re-distributing taxes so that things are made fair again! Some of the candidates on our side are already saying things similar to this. And I thank them for it. I still think that our entire Party should not only endorse this idea, but EMBRACE it!
Anyway, at this point in my Saturday night, this made perfect sense to me. I even felt it important enough to stop and share it with you. Heck, if this could be tweaked in such a way that it helps the Dems develop a backbone, then I'm willing to take the flames/pies for the shortness of the diary, lack of linkage, etc.
After all, I'm taking advantage of my "alone" time! :-D
