This is a quick diary to bring additional attention to what you can do about the fuel oil spill in San Francisco Bay.
Dirty bunker fuel literally comes from the bottom of the barrel and is more than 1,000 times dirtier than the diesel fuel used in trucks and buses. This fuel pollutes the air, threatens human health, and causes global warming. Now, an accident has led to the release of 58,000 gallons of this toxic fuel into the San Francisco Bay -- demonstrating the risks that its use poses for marine life. Friends of the Earth's Clean Vessels campaign is calling on Congress to require a complete phase-out of bunker fuel use.

As many of you may have heard there has been a fuel oil spill of about 58,000 gallons into the beautiful San Francisco Bay. From the SF Chronicle
"San Francisco Bay just dwarfs all the other estuaries on the Pacific Coast," said W. David Shuford, a wetlands biologist at PRBO (originally called Point Reyes Bird Observatory), the Petaluma science center that has monitored Farallones wildlife for four decades.
"The estuary size, the diversity of the habitat, the flow of fresh water and the mild climate all come together to support large numbers of birds," he said.
