It's true, o forces of darkness, the War on Christmas created from Bill O'Reilly's fertile imagination has been won by.... Bill O'Reilly! Source: Bill O'Reilly
Media Matters has the details.
The first salvo from Bill against what he likes to call the "forces of darkness" was directed against destroyer of civilizations Crate & Barrel, who, in late November 2006, he said was ordering their people not to say, 'Merry Christmas,' and that the stores "will fire" employees who do so. He also said ordering employees not to say 'Merry Christmas' is
the worst kind of fascism you could possibly have.
Well, aside from posting at Nazi/KKK equivalent site DailyKos.
Bill's assault on this dragon was ferocious, and not at all undermined by the fact that it was actually a windmill.
Crate & Barrel has no policy encouraging or discouraging store employees from saying 'Merry Christmas' or any other greeting. Kahn said she was trying to communicate that the store does not actively require employees to say 'Merry Christmas.'
Next windmill! Er... dragon!! Soldier of darkness, Best Buy, who earned two shows worth of hectoring for forbidding their (imaginary) employees (in Bill's head) from saying "Merry Christmas."
Best Buy spokeswoman Dawn Bryant said Best Buy workers are allowed to greet customers any way they choose, including 'Merry Christmas,' but the company's promotional efforts are limited.
No Christmas commercials? Dirty heathens.
But all is well now. From O'Reilly's show this December 4th
Now, first of all, you don't deny that, a few years ago -- and we won this war, largely -- that there was a very effective movement underway to wipe out, in the public square, all vestiges of Christmas. Stores were ordering employees not to say "Merry Christmas."
...
If I had not done the campaign, then the forces of darkness would have won. There's no question about that.
Curses! Now when I go to Best Buy or Crate & Barrel, employees may or may not say "Merry Christmas," just the same as before Bill fought and won the war on Christmas. How does he always win?
I'll tell you. When a dedicated man sets himself to make no appreciable difference in this world, there is no stopping him.
Forces of Darkness, good night.
