I had a wonderful day and wanted to share it with you all today. My friend Jean and I decided to drive to Puerto Vallarta today. Just a small adventure and Jean is stressed with her job. Puerto Vallarta is about four hours from here so we left early this morning.
We like to check out the offbeat spots not on the highway so off we went. We saw a sign that said Blue Bay Hotel so we turned off and arrived at the guard gate. The guard informed us that it would cost twenty five dollars just to drive our car past the gate. No streets of gold for us, and god only knows what breakfast would have cost. So off we go.
Our next stop was a beach town called Bocas de Iguana. Nothing there but a beautiful secluded beach. We saw a small lagoon with the water boiling and checked that out thinking it might be fish but alas, it was mosquito larve and there were about three crocs floating around. Ok, we are out of there but on the way back to the car we found a huge termite nest with a tarzan rope attached. I considered pulling on the vine but Jean talked me out of it.
Next stop Tenecatita. Been there before. It is well known in these parts as a great scuba and snorkeling beach. They also have great food. We decided on the speciality of the house, a fish fillet stuffed with shrimp, crab, conch, and assorted fresh veggies, and two giant pina coladas served with a slice of cantalope and a green olive. Go figure! These big bees arrived so we donated our pina coladas to them since they were all over the inside of the glasses.
Then came the vendors! Jean and I had a wonderful time purchasing and visiting with them. I am the proud owner of a pair of turquoise earrings, a wooden bowl with three compartments and three small spoons, and a nice purse. My prize purchase was a large green frog fridge magnet with a long red tongue with a bug on it. The tongue and the frog's feet quiver when I open or close the fridge. What a clever item it is!
Next stop is a biology lab in the middle of nowhere so of course we had to check it out. Jokes were made about Soylent Green and becoming an experiment ourselves. Who knew if that sign was real? It was and we had a wonderful tour of the local flora native to the area. Lots of cactus. Ok we are heading north.
We come to a town called Chamela. This was a town that was being developed as a destination about thirty years ago. There is a nice beach and it is a ghost town now. The Edijo came in and reclaimed their land and there are paved roads with nothing. Street lamps that were never lit. Lots were sold but never developed. It is very strange to see what could have been. The town is deserted. There is an empty bank building and what looks like a strip mall. Nothing here today.
Our last stop was a lovely little beach town called Perula. It is really in the middle of nowhere. The beach was lovely. No big waves and a labrador retriever who had dug a grave deep hole and was frolicking with a coconut in the hole. When he spotted us he took us to the hole in the sand and wanted us to play with him. We did and it was great fun.
Now we are about halfway to Puerto Vallarta and it is getting late so we decide to return home.
We saw a couple of lovely green iguanas on the road and Jean made a big swerve. I said what is going on? She replied that she saw a huge hairy spider on the center line and she swerved to miss him. Of course we uturned and went back to yuck it up about the big spider.
We had a great time with a lot of sun and fun. Lots of walking too. I hope you enjoy this. It was a great day!
