Apparently I'm the third person to post a diary. Here's my wrinkle: Joe Lieberman represents a group of people who are always wrong about everything yet continually get credibility from our media. Out of the big 3 candidates, John Edwards was the only one not to support Lieberman at any point during the primary -- and he was the only one to travel to Connecticut to support Lamont. I think he deserves some credit for this.
Just saw this and thought it was worth sharing: it looks like Joe Lieberman will endorse John McCain.
Both politicians are good men and members of the Beltway club of Very. Smart. People. Who. Are. Always. Wrong. About. Everything (Iraq, Iran, Whether Fred Thompson is sexy. Everything). Those very smart people will faun all over this. David Brodeur's head may explode with pride.
As for the rest of us, well, the battle lines are drawn once again. Joe Lieberman is not a Democrat. He may be a good person, but, on matters of life and death and war and peace, Joe Lieberman is fundamentally wrong. Out party should stand up to him strongly.
And Dems who supported Joe Lieberman in the primary owe the rest of us an apology. That includes:
Bill Clinton:
and Barack Obama:
I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf
Here's what John Edwards had to say when he came to Connecticut to support Ned Lamont, the DEMOCRATIC candidate for Senate:
UPDATE: Just to clarify, Obama and Clinton both actively supported Joe Lieberman in the primary. After the primary, Obama and Clinton endorsed Ned Lamont. Clinton even lent an advisor to the Lamont campaign. However, their support was relatively soft and neither Clinton nor Obama actively campaigned for Lamont. In cotnrast, John Edwards was neutral in the primary between Lamont and Lieberman (and a failure to endorse the Dem. incumbent had meaning). Edwards travelled to Connecticut to campaign for Lamont in the primary (note that JRE only made one trip to Connecticut due to other campaign responsibilities -- I certainly wish he had done more, but, out of the big 3, Edwards was the only one who got Lieberman-Lamont right.
