As we all know by now, Hilary won the New Hampshire primary (go Hillary!). Even though I'm leaning towards Obama, I personally think it's an exciting win for her and the Democratic party.
However, from what I've read on the various Open Threads and diaries there are many people quite upset at her win. The negativity displayed by them makes me wonder if Hilary herself came to their house, took away all their candy and left them with a bunch of sour grapes.
Follow me below the fold for the 2008 Hyperbole Awards, Hillary Edition.
Inspired by this comment in an Open Thread, I decided to scour some of the other threads to see the reaction by some of our more pessimistic members of our community. Only comments in the Open Threads were considered for nomination. Hidden Comments are automatically disqualified.
Out of respect for the authors of these comments, I won't link to them, but anyone with a basic knowledge of the search function can easily find them.
Our nominees for 2008 Hyperbole Awards are below. Let's start off with an easy warm-up category:
Bad Predictions
Proving once again that hindsight is not 20/20
She's going to be blown out.
Badly. Like maybe even double digits badly.
i predict obama by 13
while everybody here is freaking out. mark it.
have to try at this...
By the end of the night, once the larger precincts have come in:
43 Obama
27 Clinton
25 Edwards
05 Others
The more populated, metropolitan areas will take more time to count and that is where I expect Obama to pull ahead.
And the winner is...well, there are no winners in this category because they were just all wrong.
Republicans Win!
The nominees in our next category would make Eeyore seem as bubbly as Rachel Ray. Apparently we should all give up now since we're all doomed!
White House possibly lost tonight
With McCain's win and Clinton's disgusting win, we may look back and say tonight was the night the Democrats lost the White House.
4 more years of Republican White House
.... thanks a lot guys.
You just gave this group of idiots on the right the only thing that could save their butts.... Hillary on the ticket.
why are you happy?
Do you WANT a Bush third term?
If Clinton wins, McCain is the president ...
since that would mean "terr-rists will strike you on day one" has scared voters.
And the winner is...our third nominee since he or she takes pessimism and hyperbole to a whole new level! Congrats on your win!
I'm voting for Republicans!
The nominees in this category are a bit irrational and seem to prefer a Republican in the White House. Way to go guys!!! Keep it up with that fabulous job.
She won't unite ME.
If she's the nominee, she can win the presidency without my vote.
Although I've always voted for the Democratic nominee for President (often holding my nose as I did it) this time I'll be sitting this presidential election out . . . for the first time in 28 years!!!
If she wins the nomination..
the republicans will win this election. I will NOT vote for her. I dont care who the republican nominee is.
I'm voting for Bloomberg if Hillary wins. Thank you John Edwards for being a punk and dividing the vote up therefore letting that phony Hillary win.
Bloomberg in 08 if not Obama
Hillary the death of a party
... I swear if she wins the nomination I WILL NOT VOTE democratic and I know many people who feel the same way...I hope you enjoy being a small tent party.
As an Independent in a closed state, I can honestly say that...If she ends up being the nominee, we will hold our noses and vote Republican (or Bloomberg if he enters the race). Hillary is a guaranteed loss in the general election.
And the winner is....none of you! You're all losers! Only losers vote for Republicans!
Sour Grapes
The nominees in this category are just angry and not in the fun way! I wouldn't trust these people with my safety word.
This is such terrible news
If Hillary is the future of the Democratic Party, I will no longer be able to call myself a Democrat. Even Republicans were excited about Obama! Can we PLEASE have a candidate that will win an election and be worth voting for? Is this so much to ask?? So frustrating!!
Hilary is unelectable!
I'm a progressive Republican who voted for Bill Clinton (the best Republican President since Eisenhower). But there is no way I'll vote for Hilary, she is too far to the right!!!
This sucks about as hard as anything I've seen in
quite some time!
I Hope You Are Happy Markos
I have never been more disappointed or disillusioned with my party...
...Get ready for the most conservative court this nation has ever seen.
Way to go Kos and everyone else...
The Empire Strikes Back
This is what it feels like when hope gets snatched away. I feel absolutely ill....I feel worst of all for my three young daughters. Their future's just turned black.
And the winner is.....our fourth nominee for blaming Kos! Because when things don't go as you expect, blame Kos!
It's New Hampshire's Fault!
In our final category, the nominees blame the state of New Hampshire for voting. The fun thing about primaries is that the blame transfers to a new set of states every week! We'll all be blaming Nevada and South Carolina next!
NH is the only New England state
that went with Bush in 2000. They are supposed to be libertarian, but who really knows what they are thinking.
Thanks NH for shooting our party in the foot
Again
Lets kick Hillary out of this party.
New Hampshire people are the worst in the world. Bush and Hillary are in the same circle.
what a freaking disaster
I can't believe this. A nightmare. I HATE NEW HAMPSHIRE.
Hillary cannot win
I'll prepare my kid for an education in a Huckabee Christian Madrassa if Hillary is the nominee...it will be a historic loss in November.
Thanks New Hampshire. Thanks a fucking lot.
And the winner is...our third nominee because New Hampshire people are apparently worse than Republicans. Way to go on your use of hyperbole!
